On November 17 - 18, 2015, eleven National CAPACD members from across the country convened in Oakland, CA to discuss small business development and increasing access to capital for AAPI entrepreneurs and the self-employed. This gathering was a critical step toward establishing our Small Business Network – a group of National CAPACD members engaged in supporting the development of micro-entrepreneurs and preservation of small businesses in AAPI communities across the country.
Today, the National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development (National CAPACD) stands together with other organizations in the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans to denounce anti-Muslim hate and the disturbing rise of xenophobia. National CAPACD’s mission is to improve the quality of life for low-income Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders by promoting economic vitality, civic and political participation, and racial equity and we believe that anti-Muslim hate fundamentally undermines our mission and values in the threat and insecurity it poses to our communities and our allies. Towards that end, we issue the following statement:
Today, the Obama Administration announced Doua Thor as the new Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI), stepping into a position held by Kiran Ahuja for the past six years. Ms. Ahuja will move to serve as the Chief of Staff of the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
We are celebrating 15 years of movement building among our membership and allies! Our theme this year, “Moving Forward, Rising Together: United for Thriving Communities,” reflects our renewed focus on working in coalition with communities of color on issues of racial justice.
We seek a Membership and Communications Coordinator to develop our membership program and to manage internal and external communications related to membership. The position is critical for communicating the organization’s mission, values, and priorities to our membership.
National CAPACD will hold a press conference with U.S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Financial Services, to release the groundbreaking report, Scrimping + Saving.
