Convention Overview - Celebrating a Decade of Unity: A Time of Change

Updated Schedule of Events Here

National CAPACD is excited to announce our 10th Annual Convention in Washington, DC!  This year’s theme, “Celebrating a Decade of Unity: A Time of Change” marks the milestone that we have reached, and the fundamental shifts our nation and our government are undergoing.  With the historic election of President Barack Obama, the introduction of a new administration, and major new federal investments being made in the face of our nation’s dire economic situation, this year’s convention promises to be an exceptional opportunity to learn, share and participate in forging a new course for our communities and for our country

We are in the midst of an economic crisis unlike any we have seen in our lifetime.  Millions of jobs have been lost.  Many small businesses cannot borrow or make payroll, devastating our ethnic enclaves and neighborhoods.  Our families are losing their homes or being displaced due to the foreclosure crisis.  Many of us are both anxious and uncertain of what the future will hold.  Non-profit organizations are fighting to keep their doors open in the face of increasing needs.  While times are challenging, together we have built an impressive, innovative network of Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian community development practitioners and advocates.  Drawing on these strengths, we are well poised to engage with policymakers and present real solutions to issues facing our communities.

Our progressive movement is presented today with the opportunity to profoundly impact the direction of our country.  National CAPACD members and our allies have a strong history of innovative and effective community development strategies that can be a part of this new direction.  This year’s convention is an opportunity for our community to play a leadership role in shaping policy not only for the AAPI community but for the country.  Engage in roundtables with Congressional Staff, hear about the President’s Initiatives, and learn about resources and opportunities for your local work.  We look forward to working with you to set the stage for the next decade of National CAPACD’s growth.

National CAPACD Conventions

National CAPACD’s Annual Convention brings together hundreds of community based practitioners, organizers and advocacy agencies in one of the largest gatherings nationwide.  By bringing together actively engaged, ethnically and geographically diverse leaders in the community development field, the Convention is an opportunity to create and share a common vision and agenda, and take collective action to strengthen the AAPI community development movement. Our national convention provides an opportunity to:

•    Exchange information, resources and experiences between “established” and “emerging” community organizations in working with growing and diverse AAPI populations.

•    Build new and strengthen existing partnerships between elected officials, educational and research institutions, national intermediaries, government agencies, and other community based organizations.

•    Develop individual skills and organizational capacity in community development workshops led by established neighborhood practitioners, foundations, community organizers, researchers and technical assistance providers.

Southwest Airlines is Proud to be the Official Airline of National CAPACD’s 10th Annual Convention.
