Funding Opportunity from National CAPACD

National CAPACD is pleased to announce the release of a Request for Proposals for the AAPI Communities Taking Initiative in Our Neighborhoods Technical Assistance (ACTION TA) program!    The ACTION TA program is a national technical assistance and training initiative that builds organizational and program capacity using a model based on cultural competency and peer-to-peer support.

Will you be joining us in Washington, D.C. for our 10th annual convention next week?  Take this opportunity to meet, catch up, and collaborate with your fellow AAPI community based organizations or community development corporations for this great funding opportunity!

Haven’t registered yet?  It’s not too late!  Please refer to our convention website here for more information on how you can register and join us in Washington, D.C.

Competitive proposals for funding will be accepted, and proposals will be reviewed by a selection panel comprised of the National CAPACD Program Committee members, staff and other individuals who are familiar with the goals of the program and will be able to provide recommendations for funding.

The participating organizations selected for ACTION TA projects will be able to use these funds to cover the cost of activities associated with the project’s proposal.  Funds may be used, for example, to cover staffing costs, travel for site visits, materials development, printing and publication of reports, and general administrative overhead for the project.

Grants of approximately $15, 000 will be made for six projects.  The grant awards will be made in equal amounts to each project.

Questions about eligibility or proposal submission should be directed to:

Hieu Truong, Program Coordinator

Romana Lee-Akiyama, Deputy Director,

Proposals are due by 5:00 pm (PDT) on Monday, June 29, 2009; applicants will be notified of receipt by email on Wednesday, July 1, 2009.

3)  National CAPACD Invited to White House Bill Signing of the Helping Families Save Their Homes Act

On May 20th, Lisa Hasegawa, Executive Director of National CAPACD, was invited to the White House to witness President Obama sign the Helping Families Save Their Homes Act and the Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act into law.

The Helping Families Save Their Homes Act expands on the work of the Making Home Affordable Program which was first announced in February.  The bill makes it easier for homeowners to find options to making their mortgages affordable and avoid preventable foreclosures.  The bill also establishes protections for renters living in foreclosed homes, nad establishes the right of a homeowner to know who owns their mortgage.

The Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act gives the federal government more tools to crack down on the kind of fraud that put thousands of families at risk of losing their homes.  It aims to stop predatory lending practices by expanding the power of the Department of Justice, and also creates the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission to investigate the financial practices of Wall Street.

4)  NeighborWorks America Scholarships Available

National CAPACD and NeighborWorks® America, through the George Knight Scholarship Program are offering a limited number of full tuition and single-room lodging scholarships to National CAPACD members to attend up to 5 days of training at the upcoming NeighborWorks® Training Institute in Chicago, IL from August 17-21, 2009.
