Join our growing membership to deepen our collective impact

National CAPACD is a coalition of community-based organizations and allies committed to improving the lives of low- and moderate-income Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) communities. We do this by connecting with and amplifying the voices of our growing membership of community-based organizations, as well as other values-aligned nonprofits that advocate for the broader AA and NHPI population.

National CAPACD membership is reserved for community-based organizations that focus on community economic development work to improve the lives of low- to moderate-income AA and NHPI individuals, families, and communities.

National CAPACD member organizations will affirmatively agree on our bedrock values, which you can view here.

You are eligible to apply for membership if one or more of the following describes your local or regional organization. 

  • Community, neighborhood, or population-based organization
  • Community development corporation (CDC)
  • Multi-service organization
  • Community organizing organization
  • Arts and cultural organization engaging in local community development
  • Community development financial institution (CDFI) and/or other community lender
  • Community land trust

Community Beneficiaries – National CAPACD’s purpose is to improve the lives of low- and moderate-income AA and NHPI communities. Therefore, the demographics of the people who primarily benefit from the activities of the member organization should reflect predominantly low-income Asian American, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander community members.

**Your organization must have a 501(c)3 tax status designation and at least one paid staff member OR
have a fiscal sponsorship from a 501(c)3 organization and at least one paid staff member

Eligibility for membership includes local and community-based organizations, regional and NOT national organizations. Community-based organizations must focus the majority of their work on local geographies, such as neighborhoods, cities, counties, metropolitan areas, or tribal areas.

Organizations that currently have existing comprehensive community development strategies or programming, or are in the process of developing and creating comprehensive community development programming. 

Community economic justice – ways to increase accessibility and equity for low- to moderate-income communities.

If your organization does not currently provide community or economic development programming, but would like to receive support and assistance to develop or grow in this area, please indicate this in your application so our membership team can determine which category you should apply for.

Examples of this programming can include (but are not limited to) 

  • Community organizing/anti-displacement organizing/economic justice organizing
  • Creative placemaking/place-keeping – employing arts, culture, and storytelling strategies to improve the community
  • Community land trust 
  • CDFI or microlender 
  • Financial empowerment/financial capability – including financial coaching, financial education workshops, and access to financial products such as lending circles, secured credit cards, and IDAs
  • Housing counseling –  including  individual counseling and group workshops on topics such as buying a home, renting a home, eviction prevention, foreclosure prevention, and fair housing
  • Neighborhood/place-based strategies (community planning)
  • Affordable housing development/management
  • Affordable commercial or community facilities development
  • Small business counseling & lending (direct service)
  • Small business district stabilization (i.e. commercial tenant protections, community safety, economic development strategies, etc.)

National CAPACD member organizations meet at least two of the following criteria: 

  • An Asian American and/or Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander in an executive leadership position (for example: CEO, COO, CFO)
  • Meaningful AA and NHPI representation on the board of directors
  • Advocate for or operate programs that benefit a significant AA and NHPI or immigrant/refugee community

  • Eligible to apply for Our Neighborhoods Capital Fund (ONCF) community real-estate development loans

We provide in-person and virtual spaces for leaders, community development professionals, funders, and experts to connect, share insights, learn from one another, and collaborate to re-imagine a more equitable future.

We provide culturally relevant training and technical assistance to improve the lives of low-income AAs and NHPIs.

Examples of this member benefit:

  • Financial capability training and technical assistance
  • Housing capability training and technical assistance
  • Neighborhood organizing training and technical assistance
  • Small business training and technical assistance

We make local work visible at the national level through advocacy efforts that center and elevate local voices. Our members shape and inform our national policy and research agenda. We also work with our members to shift the national narrative about low-income AA and NHPI communities by amplifying their stories, needs, and successes.

Membership Dues

National CAPACD recognizes that organizations experience different financial circumstances, and we do not want dues to be prohibitive. We offer organizations the option to pay as they can, and we invite you to choose the dues amount that fits your budget (we suggest that all organizations commit to paying a minimum of $50). If your organizational budget allows you to, please consider paying the full membership dues – please reference the guideline below for organizations based on budget size.
