Our Research

As a national thought leader and advocate, we publish research to raise awareness of issues that impact AAs and NHPIs living in poverty.

National CAPACD’s research aims to surface needs and opportunities, document systemic barriers, and paint a representative picture of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) communities and neighborhoods. Given the gap in good public data on AA and NHPI communities, we are committed in our research to a deeper understanding of our communities. This deeper understanding challenges dominant narratives, such as the model minority myth, and informs equitable and inclusive policies and practices that place a focus on solutions to meet the community’s real needs.

National CAPACD’s research serves the following purposes:

  • Narrative shift: challenge the model minority myth and deepen understanding of our communities;
  • Policy and advocacy: advance equitable and inclusive policies;
  • Casemaking: design, shape, grow, and fundraise for our programs to meet community need;
  • Local Casemaking: members of the coalition use the research and reports to elevate their own work, advocate for the needs of their communities, and raise support for their organizations.

National CAPACD’s research seeks to achieve the following goals:

  • Dispel the model minority myth;
  • Make a case for improved data disaggregation;
  • Create original data and research on AA and NHPI subgroups for the field;
  • Share what’s happening on the ground with the broader industry;
  • Affirm the work we are doing with our funders and partners;
  • Identify systemic barriers for our communities and articulate specific policy solutions.
