Applications Open: 2023 Empowerment Economics Summit
September 25-27, 2023
Kauai, Hawaii
ABOUT THE SUMMIT
Empowerment Economics is a culturally responsive, multi-generational approach to financial capability in low-income Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) communities and other communities of color. The Empowerment Economics Summit is an annual summit where financial capability practitioners gather to network and learn about the framework and how they might apply or expand it in their programs and organizations. Participants will utilize the Empowerment Economics curriculum (view the preview here), a collaborative project between National CAPACD and Hawaiian Community Assets, and input from HANA Center, Empowering Pacific Islander Communities, and Sapna NYC. Attendees will develop their own Empowerment Economics action plan to take back to their organization using the curriculum. They will do this by reflecting on their organization or program’s stories and identifying the barriers, support, and resources they have to implement Empowerment Economics.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Through the summit, we hope to continue to build a network of Empowerment Economics practitioners to support each other in using the framework. This multiple-day summit is intended for practitioners with decision-making authority in their organization or program (preferably at the Manager, Director, or ED level). Attendees are expected to develop an action plan for implementing the framework into their program or organization. They should be able to carry out their action plan after the summit. Only one staff member from the selected organizations will be able to attend.
COMMITMENT
If selected, attendance for the entire duration of the summit is expected. In addition, there will be a REQUIRED virtual pre-summit meeting on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 12-2 p.m. PT/3-5 p.m. ET. During this meeting, attendees will meet our Empowerment Economics cohort members to hear how they have implemented the framework in their programs/organizations. Attendees will also learn about the Empowerment Economics framework and core elements which will better prepare them for the summit activities.
DATES AND LOCATION
The summit is from September 25-27, 2023 (Mon-Wed, 2.5 days). Hawaiian Community Assets will host the summit in Līhuʻe, Kauaʻi (Hawai’i).
TRAVEL STIPEND
The participant organizations will receive a travel stipend from National CAPACD that is intended to cover most of the airfare and ground transportation costs. National CAPACD will provide lunch and some dinners. Per diem will also be provided to cover other meal costs. Please note that the travel stipend will be provided AFTER the summit to ensure full participation of attendees.

Hotel information is TBD and will be paid for and arranged by National CAPACD. The hotel will be close to the venue.
